Our Waterloo Bench was dedicated by vicar Giles Goddard of St John’s Waterloo on Sunday, with the sprinkling of holy water before the Sustainable Flower Festival's Sung Eucharist.
Waterloo Bench echoes the curves of the bridge as we know it today, which was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and opened in 1945. The first bridge, opened 200 years ago on 18 June 1817, suffered scour damage from increased river flow after the Old London Bridge was demolished.
As well as being a gift to our neighbour in celebration of the bridge's bicentenary, the bench forms part of our London Festival of Architecture 2017 contribution. For this we opened our studio to LFA visitors on Friday 2 June with an exhibition explaining the design and fabrication of the bench. Click here to read the information exhibited.
