This year’s MSMR study trip was an unforgettable visit to the beautiful city of Verona, Italy, to explore Carlo Scarpa’s masterpiece: Castelvecchio.
Castelvecchio is a Gothic castle originally constructed in the 14th century and restored in the 20th century by Scarpa who transformed it into a museum. It is renowned worldwide as an exemplary renovation project preserving and enhancing the old whist making both subtle and bold contemporary insertions that manipulate geometry, light, and the setting of objects to create a journey through beautifully crafted galleries. These spaces are calm, understated and breathtaking.
A memorable and inspirational visit.
Our 50 strong party lunched overlooking the Adige River, embarked on an afternoon sketching tour, and took in the ancient city under glorious, autumn sunshine. A perfect day finished with fabulous food, fine wine and more than a few Negroni’s!
