Located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, 7-17 Ansdell Street seeks to replace an existing building, a negative contributor to Kensington Court Conservation Area, with 10 contextually sensitive, exemplar sustainable terraced houses.
Designed to reference the Georgian house typology, the elevation approach is carefully considered to respond to the local context, create visual interest and enhance the street scene whilst achieving an extremely ambitious sustainability agenda.
From the outset, the design has been driven to optimise the energy performance throughout the life cycle of the building. This includes consideration of demolition, construction techniques, material selection, building form factor, fabric performance, integrated renewables, overheating and targeting extremely low carbon emissions. New courtyard gardens, green roofs and green walls increase biodiversity and generate a new pocket of ‘green’ within the urban context.
The scheme is an exciting opportunity to reinstate the historic residential use and street pattern whilst responding to the climate agenda.
