This duplex apartment is situated in the heart of Mayfair and has been extended and comprehensively refurbished for luxury property developer REDD. Occupying the ground and lower ground floors of a Grade II listed building, it benefits from a private internal courtyard.
The layout centres on this courtyard, which had previously been crudely infilled, and turning what were once dark, narrow surrounding spaces into spacious, light-filled rooms. A new stair within a gallery links the front and rear portions of the plan, served by a double height glazed screen.
The apartment interiors were designed by Taylor Howes to create an elegant and timeless feel, sensitive to the historic character of the building. Period features such as cornicing and vaulted ceilings are incorporated alongside contemporary detailing. The approach provides a contextually sensitive response to the property, transforming the space into a modern home whilst conserving the building’s Georgian charm.
