Located within the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit, Member’s Hill is an exciting part new build part repurposing of an existing office building scheme that includes circa 175-200 later living apartments and associated amenity spaces. A carefully considered landscape design weaves between the buildings and works sympathetically with the sites existing ancient woodland. A village square and woodland terrace provide external spaces between the buildings with pedestrian routes that allow residents to navigate the 10.5-acre site.
The architectural design makes reference to the site’s heritage taking inspiration from the architectural language of the pit lanes, Grand Stand and Art Deco period when the track was in its heyday. Repurposing the structural frame of an existing office building, provision of intensive green roofs, air source heat pumps, onsite renewable energy in the form of photo voltaic panels and extensive planting are key elements of the sustainability and bio-diversity strategies.
High quality 2 bed apartments for residents are positioned to capture views over the surrounding ancient woodland and new landscape, with longer views across the Brooklands Race Circuit and Surrey Hills. Associated amenities range from a resident’s restaurant, lounge spaces and a library to the wellness suite which includes a swimming pool, gym, studio and treatment rooms.
A key design driver is to create opportunities for incidental meetings between residents both internally and externally, with the overall ambition being to establish a vibrant integrated retirement community.
MSMR has been appointed as lead designer to oversee the project from RIBA Stage 2 onwards.
